Job Overview
Veit is hiring an experienced High Reach Operator to join our Demolition team. This position is primarily based in Rush Island, MO, where you’ll operate large specialty demolition excavators, including Ultra High Reach machines exceeding 75 feet, and other heavy equipment as needed. Travel to additional demolition sites throughout the region will be required.
Key Responsibilities- Operate large sized specialty excavators and heavy equipment used in demolition.
- Follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
- Bring problems to the attention of the project Foreman, Superintendent, General Superintendent or Safety Director.
- Follow daily procedures and protocols as set forth in job orientations and training.
- Perform routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refer defects or needed repairs to project Foreman, Superintendent, General Superintendent or Safety Director.
- Assist in training entry level employees to perform maintenance and repair duties as required or assigned.
- Help identify any underground and overhead utilities located/exposed prior to excavating.
- Review trenching requirements with Superintendent and ensure any required protection is available.
- Keep project foreman, superintendent, or general superintendent informed of known actions, written or verbal, which may affect the ability to successfully perform tasks at construction project sites or adversely affect Company operations.
- May repair and maintain equipment in addition to other duties as assigned by management.
- Minimum one year experience in an Ultra High Reach machine exceeding 75'.
- Five years+ experience operating specialty demolition excavators required; at least five years’ industrial demolition experience preferred.
- Considerable knowledge of heavy equipment operating principles.
- Ability to drive and operate heavy equipment under varying working conditions.
- OSHA 10, First Aid/CPR certifications and the ability to follow applicable safety precautions; view and understand Veit’s safety training video.
- Working knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.
- Strong communication skills with all levels of management and employees, external vendors and other business associates.
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions; good interpersonal skills.
- Punctual and dependable; can work 8‑12 hour workdays, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends; flexible regarding work hours including evenings and weekends.
- Minimum 18 years of age; union affiliation or willingness to join union.
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug test.
- Physical demand: lift or move up to 50 pounds, sit, stand, walk, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, talk and hear; exposure to varied weather, terrain and noise.
Physical Demands: work manual tasks requiring periods of extensive physical exertion, potential exposure to adverse weather conditions, and the ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs. May sit, stand, walk, bend, stretch, stoop, kneel, talk and hear. Exposure to variable weather, terrain and loud construction site noise.
