This position reports to: Testing & Laboratory Manager
In this role, you will support product development efforts while maintaining the integrity, safety, and readiness of the test environment, including facilities, equipment, and personnel. Under general guidance from test management and Sr. Test Technicians, the Test Technician coordinates and performs laboratory activities to ensure compliance with design verification requirements, test specifications, and recognized industry standards. The Test Technician applies sound judgment and established engineering principles to execute test engineering activities, drive continuous improvement, and enhance internal efficiency and customer satisfaction.
The work model for the role is:
Onsite. This role is contributing to the Motion Drive Products Division in the US.
- Support design engineers with development activities, including component evaluation, prototype assembly, and product verification testing. Travel to external accredited test facilities, both domestic and international, as required to support certification activities.
- Execute product and prototype testing in accordance with approved test specifications, standards, and procedures; analyze results to confirm compliance with performance requirements. Troubleshoot, diagnosis, and repair electronic and electrical circuits using schematic diagrams under the guidance of engineers or senior test technicians.
- Perform safety and EMC certification testing in accordance with UL, CSA, and IEC standards and generate formal reports for submission to third-party certification agencies. Comply with all company safety policies, work rules, and regulatory requirements.
- Design, build, and maintain test setups and fixtures, including mechanical construction and electrical wiring, based on engineering specifications.
- Education:
Associate degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering with a minimum of five (5) years of relevant experience; or Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline with a minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience. - Complexity of tasks:
Responsibilities require a solid understanding of standard engineering theories, concepts, principles, and techniques. - Working knowledge of variable frequency drive (VFD) design and operation.
- Proficiency in operating laboratory test equipment to obtain accurate measurements and interpret results effectively.
- Hands-on experience performing UL, CSA, and IEC compliance testing, particularly for drive (VFD) products.
- Familiarity with ABB products.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for reporting and documentation.
