Position Summary

Responsible for the daily management of the Inspection Services Division along with performing plan reviews, inspections, administering adopted building, plumbing and electrical codes and scheduling staff to perform inspections, of existing and new construction, ensuring compliance with those codes and ordinances.

  • Reviews plans and specifications of permit applications and issue permits.
  • Responsible for short term rental, re-occupancy, and liquor license inspections.
  • Performs field inspections daily in all areas of required certifications.
  • Inspects buildings and sites for code and ordinance compliance.
  • Confers with staff, city officials or contractors to obtain approvals and data pertaining to required construction permits and inspections.
  • Establishes records for new construction, subdivisions, and commercial properties in the Permitting program.
  • Performs administrative functions such as maintaining permit files and preparing requested reports.
  • Supervises division employees in the inspection of building, plumbing and electrical installations and oversees overall building code compliance in the City.
  • Performs duties of other inspectors as needed and per certification requirements.
  • Provides various permit and inspection information to division customers via the phone, on-site contact and at the Permit Counter.
  • Performs Plan Commission reviews on behalf of the Inspection Services Division.
  • Confers and corresponds with architects, owners and contractors regarding plan review and/or field inspection concerns.
  • Prepares complaints and aids the City Attorney in the prosecution of ordinance violations, as requested.
  • Assists with scanning and maintaining property/permit data in a records management system.
  • Performs “after-hours” inspections and/or building assessments as required by DCD Director, Deputy Director, DCD-EM, PD and/or Fire following emergency incidents.
  • Performs related work as required.
