Laboratory Technician 2nd Shift
This full-time Laboratory Technician role offers the opportunity to gain extensive hands-on experience in a fast-paced microbiology laboratory. The position follows a 4x10-hour schedule on second shift, working Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 12:00 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., with an 11:00 a.m. start on Saturdays. You will spend most of your time performing microbiological testing and working with a variety of laboratory equipment, while also supporting essential documentation and cleaning tasks.
Responsibilities- Perform microbiological testing and plating procedures for the majority of the shift, following established protocols and quality standards.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring accurate and reliable test results.
- Use pipetting and other standard laboratory techniques to prepare samples and reagents.
- Accurately document test procedures, observations, and results in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
- Carry out routine cleaning, organization, and basic maintenance tasks to keep the laboratory safe, orderly, and compliant.
- Work independently with minimal supervision, managing daily workload and prioritizing tasks effectively.
- Follow all laboratory safety procedures and good laboratory practices while handling samples, reagents, and equipment.
- Participate in cross-training within additional laboratory areas as performance and business needs allow, expanding skills and responsibilities over time.
- Background in biology, microbiology, or a related scientific discipline.
- Hands-on experience working in a laboratory environment.
- Proficiency with plating techniques used in microbiological testing.
- Ability to perform accurate pipetting and other basic lab techniques.
- Comfort using and caring for standard lab equipment.
- Ability to work independently with little direct supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.
Skills & Qualifications
- Degree in the sciences (such as Biology, Microbiology, or a related field).
- Willingness to cross-train and learn additional laboratory areas and methods.
- Interest in building a long-term career path within a large, nationally operating organization.
- Motivation to gain real-world laboratory experience in a high-growth environment.
You will work in a laboratory setting for the entire shift, spending approximately 80% to 90% of your time performing microbiology testing and related lab work. The remaining one to two hours each day will focus on documentation, cleaning, and other routine support tasks. The environment is fast-paced and growth-oriented, offering exposure to a wide range of laboratory procedures and the opportunity to be cross-trained in additional areas.
The role follows a second-shift schedule of four 10-hour days (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday), with a slightly earlier start time on Saturdays. Standard laboratory attire and safety practices apply, including appropriate protective equipment when working with samples and reagents.
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of New Berlin, WI.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $20.00 - $20.00/hr individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
