Quality Technician
The Quality Technician works on the first shift from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, in a full-time role within a fast-paced food manufacturing environment. This position conducts standardized tests on intermediate and finished food products to verify that they meet established quality standards and regulatory requirements related to size, color, and flavor. The role includes tasting products that may contain common food allergens, checking and verifying equipment performance, and supporting continuous improvement of manufacturing processes to ensure consistent product quality and safety.
Responsibilities- Conduct standardized tests on intermediate and finished food products to ensure compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements for factors such as size, color, and flavor.
- Perform flavor analysis, including tasting products that may contain wheat, milk, soy, egg, peanut, tree nut, and sesame.
- Check the metal detector regularly to confirm proper operation and promptly report malfunctions to appropriate personnel.
- Gather retention, microbiological, and control samples from raw materials and finished products according to established procedures.
- Prepare microbiological sample composites and complete associated paperwork for pickup by the external laboratory.
- Examine and approve product labels prior to printing to ensure accuracy and compliance with regulatory and internal standards.
- Place product on hold when necessary and assist with quality investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.
- Complete all daily quality and production paperwork accurately and on time as assigned.
- Comply with all safety and sanitation regulations, including SQF code, plant programs, HACCP, GMPs, and company policies, and enforce these standards by reporting deficiencies when appropriate.
- Analyze quality data to identify problem areas and assist in resolving manufacturing processes or methods that affect product quality.
- Participate on cross-functional teams to address and resolve quality issues and to support continuous improvement of processes and methods.
- Obtain environmental samples as required for quality and food safety monitoring.
- Perform other related duties as needed to support quality assurance, quality control, and quality inspection activities.
- Experience in quality control, quality assurance, or quality inspection within the food industry.
- Knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to food manufacturing and quality processes.
- Understanding of HACCP principles and their application in a food production environment.
- Familiarity with food industry regulations, quality standards, and good manufacturing practices (GMPs).
- Ability to conduct sensory and flavor analysis, including tasting products that may contain common food allergens.
- Skill in collecting, preparing, and handling microbiological and control samples from raw materials and finished products.
- Capability to operate and verify the performance of quality-related equipment, such as metal detectors, and to report issues promptly.
- Competence in reviewing and approving product labels for accuracy and compliance.
- Ability to analyze quality data, identify trends or problem areas, and contribute to process improvements.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in completing daily paperwork and documentation.
- Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams to resolve quality problems and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Educational background of either 2 years of college with 1–2 years of related experience, or a 4-year high school diploma with 3–5 years of progressively responsible related experience.
Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working in a fast-paced food manufacturing environment.
- Practical knowledge of SQF code and plant quality programs.
- Comfort with cold or refrigerated production areas.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities.
