Electrical Install Engineer

The Electrical Install Engineer works with overhead cranes and hoists within a nuclear equipment and services environment, focusing on electrical installation, Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), and final commissioning. This role involves designing and reading electrical schematics, performing installation calculations, and executing field startups and testing in industrial settings. The engineer applies deep knowledge of electric motor controls, utility and safety circuits, and operator controls to ensure reliable and compliant installations.

The position also requires troubleshooting complex electrical issues, supporting project teams on-site and in the office, and occasionally traveling domestically and internationally for extended installation and commissioning assignments.

Responsibilities
  • Function as the primary electrical install engineer at both site and office, providing daily technical supervision and guidance to electrical and mechanical engineers, technicians, craft, and other workers.
  • Implement the Installation Supervisor's electrical objectives and processes at the customer's site, ensuring alignment with project requirements and standards.
  • Collaborate with the project manager to establish on-site installation work requirements, determine resource and equipment needs, and develop plans to keep customer acceptance and project milestones moving forward.
  • Review daily installation tasks and work activities to ensure they stay on schedule and meet quality and safety expectations.
  • Write detailed, step-by-step installation procedures based on crane and hoist installation activities, ensuring clarity and consistency for field execution.
  • Design and build all required electrical cabinets and temporary power panels needed to successfully perform the installation, based on the tools and equipment required for the project.
  • Serve as the lead engineering install engineer on-site to prepare equipment for testing and to execute testing in the most efficient and effective sequence.
  • Support the electrical engineer and customer during Site Acceptance Testing (SAT), following the SAT procedure step by step to demonstrate that the installed equipment operates as intended.
  • Perform and document all necessary pre-SAT checklists and tests, such as point-to-point checks and ground resistance Megger tests, ensuring that all prerequisites for SAT are completed and recorded.
  • Adhere to SAT hold points as defined by the customer, coordinating quality checks and approvals before proceeding, including inspections after load tests and verification of protection systems and safety functions.
  • At the conclusion of SAT, repeat backup operations to ensure that the latest software snapshots and parameters are correctly saved to the system laptop and related equipment.
  • Maintain a strong, solution-oriented customer relations approach by working diligently to satisfy customer requirements and complete installations, testing, and startups as efficiently as possible.
  • Proactively self-teach and learn new materials, technologies, and design concepts related to electrical installation and crane systems to continuously improve performance and expertise.
  • Provide constructive feedback and input on installation and design improvements to the Installation Engineering Supervisor and Chief Engineer, focusing on enhanced functionality and cost reduction opportunities.
  • Work with project managers to meet project installation deadlines, providing accurate status updates and identifying potential risks or delays.
  • Collaborate with purchasing to specify and select appropriate parts and components required for installations and field work.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation related to installations, SAT activities, test results, and configuration changes.
  • Perform commissioning activities, including PLC, VFD, and HMI setup and verification, ensuring that systems integrate and operate as designed.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues involving circuit breakers, transformers, motor starters, contractors, relays, AC/DC inverters, braking resistors, PLCs, and related control equipment.
