Position Summary
The Boom Truck Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient transport of equipment and materials to and from job sites within the local area and surrounding regions. This role involves operating a boom truck, including towing equipment trailers, and supporting jobsite operations as needed. In addition to driving duties, the position may be required to help with general labor tasks to assist with project requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Transport construction materials and equipment to and from jobsite locations in a safe and efficient manner.
- Secure loads using chains, binders, straps, and other appropriate methods prior to transport.
- Load, unload, and hoist materials using a boom truck and related equipment.
- Perform general labor duties at construction sites as needed to support project operations.
- Follow all safety policies and procedures, including timely and accurate incident reporting; promptly communicate concerns to the Foreman, Superintendent, General Superintendent, Safety Director, or other management.
- Maintain a clean and organized jobsite by collecting materials, tools, and equipment, and securing the site daily to reduce hazards.
- Keep the supervisor informed of any issues—written or verbal—that may impact job performance or company operations.
- Adhere to daily procedures, protocols, and expectations outlined during job orientations and training.
- Conduct routine inspections and basic preventative maintenance on assigned equipment; report defects or repair needs to the Director of Logistics.
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management.
- High school diploma or equivalent, with two or more years of experience operating a boom truck or a similar tractor‑trailer combination hauling equipment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current and valid CDL Class A license.
- Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). and regulations, especially Hours of Service; ability to use an Electronic Logging Device (ELD).
- Ability to read maps, follow directions, and navigate with GPS.
- Ability to understand and comply with all Company and Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) safety protocols and maintain the highest safety standards.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills when working with all levels of management, employees, external vendors, and other business partners.
- Ability to understand, follow, and convey written and oral instructions.
- Ability to reliably meet attendance schedules as required by management and/or project needs.
- Must possess and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Record and a current, valid medical card for CDL/Class A license.
- Must be able to work 8 to 12‑hour days, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends.
- Member of the Local 139 union or eligible to join.
- OSHA‑10 training.
- Basic knowledge of operating drill rigs, dozers, skid loaders, excavators, loaders, tractors, compactors, and similar equipment.
- May be required to drive and/or stay overnight.
- Early morning start time may range from 1am–5am, depending on the job needs.
- This is a safety‑sensitive position; candidates must pass a pre‑employment drug test.
- Ability to handle physically demanding work involving sustained physical exertion and exposure to adverse and variable weather conditions.
- Must sit for extended periods and repeatedly enter and exit the vehicle; must stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, stretch, and reach to perform inspections, secure loads, and operate controls.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50pounds, including handling equipment, tools, or materials.
- Use of the hands and arms to steer, shift, brake, and operate the vehicle and trailer controls is required.
- Must be able to view, enter, and verify electronic data on handheld or in‑cab devices; must use an Electronic Logging Device (ELD) to accurately record hours of service.
