Occupational Summary

The Law Enforcement Training Specialist is responsible for coordinating courses for the Department of Adult Corrections and local agency course requests. This position is also responsible for coordinating and operating the training simulator for scenario delivery, as well as overseeing the ongoing maintenance requirements for Virtra software and equipment.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

* Provides excellent customer service and assistance to internal and external customers through walk-in, telephone and email

* Collaborates with law enforcement agency requests for continuing education courses

* Assists in implementation of law enforcement continuing education courses

* Performs clerical data entries and record management to include course set-ups and scheduling

* Assists in identifying and scheduling qualified Law Enforcement and Department of Adult Corrections instructors

* Assists in marketing course offerings on the college website, by emails to associated LE agencies or created flyers

* Prepares instructional and student material for course offerings

* Operates the Virtra Law Enforcement simulator to run scenarios for students

* Performs diagnostics & works closely with Virtra technicians for maintenance testing of the Virtra system

* Tests weapon kits and sets laser 's for Virtra Simulator weapons

* Works closely with Law Enforcement Instructors to ensure they have all needed materials to deliver courses

* Assembles small parts with a high attention to detail

* Verifies that course checklists and documentation are filled out completely and accurately, and uploaded to designated locations

* Ensures all Law Enforcement classes are listed on the State Criminal Justice website

* Assists and verifies documented items are prepped for transport

* Reports issues or problems with Virtra simulator to immediate supervisor

* Adheres to all safety guidelines in the classroom, gun range, or mat room

* Performs other job-related duties and projects in support of the College's mission, core values and goals

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Two (2) years' professional experience in developing, coordinating and marketing instructional courses/programs or delivering instructional courses/programs.

Valid NC Drivers' License.

Preferred:

Associate's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.

Previous teaching experience.

* Knowledge of college programs, services and procedures relating to workforce development programs

* Audio/video and PC operation

* Proficiency with Microsoft Office

* Proficiency with mechanical hand tools, power tools and equipment

* Demonstrated ability to work effectively with culturally diverse student population, including those with different levels of academic preparation and varying physical and learning abilities and socioeconomic levels
