Position: Exceptional Children’s Preschool Teacher
Reports to: Director of Exceptional Children
Terms of Employment: 10 months
Pay Grade: NC State Salary Schedule (commensurate with experience), plus local supplement
FLSA Status: Exempt
Nature of the Work: To plan and provide developmental activities to meet the individual needs of identified preschool students, as well as maintaining necessary records.
Duties and Responsibilities- Plan and provide developmental activities in physical, cognitive, communication, social/emotional, and adaptive development.
- Develop and plan activities to meet the individual needs of the children (Individual Education Plans).
- Assist with evaluation and identification of preschool students.
- Manage student behavior in developmentally sound ways within the policy of the program.
- Maintain communication with parents about a child’s development and participate in parent training activities.
- Conduct home visits to improve home/school communications.
- Provide leadership and direction for teamwork with teacher assistants, therapists, and other personnel involved with a child.
- Participate in required in‑service activities for Preschool staff.
- Maintain necessary records including referral, evaluation information, progress notes, data collection, assessments, IEPs, etc.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining schedule.
- Act as a consultant with teachers and other related professionals.
- Participate in screenings.
- Participate in transition from Preschool to school services.
- Perform other duties and accept responsibilities as assigned.
- Maintain confidentiality.
- Accept other duties as directed within guidelines of program.
Skills and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal relationships with students, staff and parents.
- Ability to communicate effectively in written and oral forms.
- Ability to develop and compile a variety of records and reports.
- B‑K certification.
- Early Childhood 4‑year degree working toward B‑K certification.
- MUST BE ABLE TO COMMUNICATE ORALLY AND IN WRITING WITH PARENTS, STAFF, AND COMMUNITY LEADERS.
- MUST BE ABLE TO PHYSICALLY PERFORM THE BASIC LIFE OPERATIONAL FUNCTIONS OF FINGERING, GRA... (etc.)
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board and local policy on evaluation of personnel.
