Instructional Designer
The Instructional Designer collaborates with faculty and staff to design and enhance high-quality instructional materials for face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses. This role promotes best practices in pedagogy, accessibility, and instructional technology while ensuring alignment with accreditation and Quality Matters (QM) standards. This position focuses on supporting Career and Technical Education (CTE) course development and assisting with the institutional transition from Moodle to Canvas, requiring an innovative, detail-oriented professional who works effectively with faculty.
Collaborates with faculty to design, develop, and revise online and hybrid CTE courses
Supports the migration of courses from Moodle to Canvas, ensuring quality and consistency
Applies best practices in instructional design and Quality Matters standards (or similar frameworks)
Provides guidance and training to faculty on effective course design and Learning Management System (LMS) tools
Assists with troubleshooting course design issues and optimizes course functionality
Ensures courses align with accessibility standards, ADA compliance, and student-centered design principles using appropriate tools
Contributes process improvements and efficient workflows during the LMS transition
Conducts training, workshops, and one-on-one consultations on instructional design, online teaching strategies, and educational technologies
Supports faculty in aligning learning objectives, assessments, and instructional materials with institutional and programmatic goals
Assists with the implementation of course quality assurance processes, including peer review and course evaluations
Participates in appropriate committees and task forces as assigned
Performs other job-related duties and projects as assigned in support of the College's mission, core values and goals
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning in Instructional Design, Educational Technology, Education or closely related field. Preferred:
Experience with Canvas. Quality Matters certification or experience applying QM standards. Experience teaching or supporting instruction at a community college.
Knowledge of Quality Matters certification or experience applying QM standards
Knowledge of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs
Knowledge of computer assisted learning models
Knowledge of learning management systems including LMS transitions
Knowledge of large-scale course redesign initiatives
Knowledge of the design, development and support of online and hybrid courses in higher education
Knowledge of College policies and procedures related to distance education
Advanced computer skills and technical proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
Effective verbal, listening and written communications skills
Attention to detail and high level of accuracy
Interpersonal skills with proven ability to work in a team environment
Effective planning, coordination and organizational skills to meet work deadlines
Ability to analyze situations and exercise sound judgement in making decisions
Ability to display tact and poise at all times
Ability to handle confidential information with absolute discretion
