Safety Engineer

New Bern, NC / Full-time

Responsibilities
  • Work closely with site management to plan, implement, and coordinate safety programs that comply with all OSHA regulations, ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of all employees.
  • Establish and maintain up-to-date health and safety programs in accordance with approved standards, providing functional leadership to management.
  • Act as a representative for ISO 45001 and OHSAS 18001.
  • Perform and maintain Job Hazard Analyses (JHA).
  • Recommend process and product safety features that reduce employee exposure to chemical, physical, and biological hazards.
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, ensuring compliance.
  • Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment to determine compliance with OSHA standards.
  • Report and review findings from accident investigations and facility inspections.
  • Administer required compliance reports to corporate and site management.
  • Inform site management immediately of any health or safety matters requiring a report to a government agency.
  • Conduct or direct testing of air quality, noise, temperature, or radiation levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Provide support and direction for factory safety committees.
  • Identify and provide a mandatory safety training program for associates and contractors.
  • Audit and provide counsel on the health and safety performance of each plant component, keeping management informed.
  • Maintain liaisons with outside organizations such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams to facilitate emergency responses.
  • Confer with medical professionals to assess health risks and develop ways to manage health issues and concerns.
  • Compile, analyze, and interpret statistical data related to occupational illnesses and accidents.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Four‑Year College degree in Safety – Required.
  • 3‑5 years of safety experience – Required.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and EPA guidelines.
  • Certification such as CSP (Certified Safety Professional) or ASP (Associate Safety Professional) is a plus.
  • Travel percentage – 10%.
Pay & Benefits

Pay range: $78,000 – $104,000.

Incentive plan:
Annual bonus with a target 5% of base salary.
