ResponsibilitiesThe Development Engineer functions in the Development Engineering Department where the rapid development of highly innovative featured products is required. The primary responsibility of this position is to provide product design engineering expertise for cooking appliances that will positively affect and add value to our cooking products.
- Development and design (3D-CAD modelling and drawings) of components, systems, sub-modules/modules and appliances according to the BSH product development process (PDP).
- Creation of requirement engineering specifications for parts and systems.
- Support product quality and safety during development and sustaining engineering of products according to internal guidelines and agency standards (UL/CSA, IEC).
- Working closely with the lab for testing of appliances, parts and assemblies for performance (e.g., air flow, noise, structural integrity), safety (e.g., temperature, electrical, sharp edges) and reliability (e.g., lifetime performance) according to test plans.
- Create and implement work and test procedures to ensure efficient and effective use of resources.
- Present and discuss test results to find solutions to problems.
- Creation, designing and development of parts, assemblies and appliances that are suitable for production and customer service.
- Implementation of new and changed parts into production, preparing Engineering Change Requests (CR).
- Develop and maintain BOMs.
- Work with others in projects/design reviews using the experience and knowledge gained.
- Planning and preparing for worst case studies.
- Release of newly developed or changed parts or appliances after testing (part release process).
- Support assembly line in Pre-Pilot, Pilot, initial Production and continuing into Production.
- Ability to handle multiple projects with different scopes and requirements at the same time.
- Develop and maintain timeline of sub-projects and project related tasks in accordance with BSH PDP and deadlines.
- Competitor analysis/benchmarking, target costing.
- Recognition of critical parts and processes, generation and analysis of tolerance studies.
- Oversee development and design solutions of other engineers within working groups and design projects; follow timelines, tasks and requirement engineering fulfillment.
- Project management as far as task related (deadlines, driving tasks, managing assigned budgets/timelines).
- Performs work with a high degree of latitude.
- 5-7 Years Product Development Experience in Home Appliance Industry – Required.
- 3-5 Years BSH company experience – Preferred.
- Proven track record of Product Development experience in high‑end, complex, consumer‑based products.
- 3D CAD experience, preferable ‘NX’ (‘Unigraphics’).
- PLM/PDM knowledge;
Team Center preferred. - Solid knowledge of FMEA, DFMA, DfR, target costing, risk management and other engineering tools.
- Strong communication, presentation and persuasion skills.
- Understanding and interpretation of standards and norms.
- Quick learner, self‑starter, good analytical skills using specific engineering tools.
- Dependable with the ability to work with little supervision and as part of a working team.
- Exhibits appropriate professional behavior including positive attitude, sense of urgency, independent judgment, teamwork, creative thinking and personal integrity to achieve department/corporate goals and objectives.
The pay range posted for this position is based on the location noted in the posting title. Exact compensation offered may vary based on your specific skill set and work location. If the position is bonus or incentive eligible, then the payments range from 0% to 200% of target with details laid out within the plan document.
