New Bern, NC / Full-time
Your responsibilitiesThe Gas Technology and Combustion Engineer is responsible for the design, development, validation, and continuous improvement of gas combustion systems used in residential cooking appliances, including freestanding ranges, built-in ovens and professional ranges. The gas technology engineer will focus particularly on atmospheric burner systems installed within oven cavities, including bake burners, broil burners, ignition systems, flame-monitoring systems, gas distribution components, cavity ventilation, and the interaction between combustion performance and cooking performance.
This position serves as a technical specialist for gas cooking technology and works closely simulation, testing, certification, quality, manufacturing, purchasing, suppliers, and global engineering teams. The engineer will translate consumer, regulatory, safety, quality, performance, and cost requirements into robust gas-system designs suitable for high-volume appliance production.
- Design and develop gas burners for ovens and ranges.
- Optimize burner geometry, port design, fuel-air mixing, and flame distribution.
- Develop bake, broil and convection-burner, ignition, and flame-sensing systems.
- Size injectors, orifices, valves, regulators, manifolds, tubing, and gas-system components.
- Develop systems for natural gas, propane, and applicable regional fuel types.
- Evaluate the effects of gas pressure, composition, altitude, temperature, humidity, and component tolerances.
- Optimize interactions between burners, oven cavities, airflow, insulation, venting, racks, and convection systems.
- Improve oven temperature uniformity, cooking performance, preheat time, recovery, and energy efficiency.
- Define ignition sequences, burner cycling, fault detection, retry logic, lockout, and safe shutdown requirements.
