Electrical Controls Technician
Location:
New Bern, North Carolina
Compensation: $37.30 - $40.21/hour + 6% Shift Differential

The Role
The Electrical Controls Technician is responsible for designing, building, maintaining, and troubleshooting electrical and electronic equipment used in a manufacturing environment. This includes automated assembly fixtures, material handling systems, production counting systems, PLCs, robotic systems, servo controls, welding systems, and other electro-mechanical equipment. This role requires strong troubleshooting ability and hands-on industrial controls experience, including Siemens PLC systems.
Essential Duties- Maintain and troubleshoot electrical and electronic equipment to resolve issues in a timely manner
- Write, modify, and troubleshoot PLC programs
- Troubleshoot HMI functional programs and industrial control systems
- Support and troubleshoot robotic systems and automation equipment
- Build new electronic equipment from schematic designs, including component layout, testing, and debugging
- Program barcode scanners for identification and quality assurance processes
- Apply automation improvements to fixture applications to increase efficiency
- Maintain and update documentation for equipment and machinery
- Prepare documentation for new equipment installations and modifications
- Communicate with OEM support groups when required
- Calibrate instrumentation and testing equipment as needed
- Support continuous improvement and TPM initiatives
- Follow lockout/tagout and all safety procedures
- Analyze and resolve complex maintenance issues with vendors and subcontractors
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Associate degree or Technical Degree in Electronics, Industrial Systems, Electrical Systems, or related field required
- 5–7 years of experience in a technical manufacturing environment required
- MUST have Siemens PLC controls experience (programming, troubleshooting, and maintenance)
- Strong experience with industrial controls and machine troubleshooting
- PLC programming and troubleshooting experience required
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, hydraulic and pneumatic diagrams
- Strong knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, electromechanical systems, and industrial communication systems
- Experience with Simatic Manager, AutoCAD, and electrical/electronic test equipment
- Strong troubleshooting, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining safety standards
- 7–10 years of manufacturing maintenance or controls experience preferred
- Formal training in Industrial Maintenance or Control Technology
- Experience with robotic systems and advanced automation equipment
- Strong background in factory automation and machine controls
