Assists in picking-up donations by riding in a Salvation Army truck and lifting, carrying, and/or hauling donations into the truck and unloading the same at the warehouse; assists in navigating for the Truck Driver; ensures the accountability, security, and safety of the donations when in route; assists in maintaining the vehicle in proper working order and in compliance with established standards;
assists in performing work in the thrift/family store and warehouse. When needed:
Sorting responsibilities; receives, sorts, prices and prepares donated items for display in the store; determines suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assists in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area. Cleans and maintains the stores and storage facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Rides in a Salvation Army truck on a scheduled route in order to pick-up donated items; assists in navigating driver to destinations by reading a map and/or hand-written directions.
- Inspects donated items briefly to ensure they can be used according to established policies and procedures; explains policy to customers regarding the types of items that can be accepted.
- Lifts, carries, and/or hauls donations into truck; packs items in truck in a manner that maximizes use of space, protects items from damage, and ensures safety.
- Prepares donation receipts for customers; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
- Unloads donations from truck upon arrival at warehouse; distributes items to appropriate locations in the warehouse.
- Performs routine maintenance of the truck; checks fluid levels on a regular basis; coordinates and may participate in repair work as needed.
- Receives, inspects and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brack, etc. according to the category and condition.
- Cleans and sanitizes bathrooms; cleans sinks and toilets, polishes mirrors, and replenishes supplies.
- Sweeps, vacuums, mops and waxes floors; sweeps sidewalks
- Helps in producing bales from unsold clothing for loading on truck
- No formal education required, AND
- Six (6) months experience lifting and hauling heavy items such as appliances and furniture, OR
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
