The purpose of this position is to supply support and information to the victims of felony crimes. The information to victims extends past the courts sentencing. This position requires the individual to exhibit compassion and sympathy for the victim of felony crimes. Individual must have a thorough knowledge of clerical and secretarial procedures. The individual will have daily contact with the public, governmental officials and other law enforcement agencies.
The individual may also help prepare criminal files for felony cases, prepare discovery, and pull dockets. The person will be using a multi-line telephone and a computer. This position is a backup for the Administrative Assistant I.
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Duties include the following:
1. VICTIM ASSISTANCE- Talk to victims on phone or in person. Act as a liaison between victim and prosecutor.
- Limited counseling for violent crime victims.
- Calculate and show documentation to support restitution requests.
- Contact victim if there is a conflict on restitution figures.
- If a violent crime goes to Jury Trial, accompany victim to Courtroom, if requested.
- Send restitution figures and information to District Clerk's Office for disbursement.
- Work with Probation Office on victim cases and get them any information they may need.
- Send victims and/or family members a letter with court date notices and on the possible parole of defendant.
- Prepare a victim file, for personal use, when there is a victim involved.
- Be well organized with accurate records of efforts to keep victims informed.
- When needed, help pull closed files.
