Communities In Schools of South Central Texas has a successful 30-year history of providing a myriad of services to students and their families. The program is part of a national network of nonprofits called “Communities In Schools” that provides direct professional services to students who are at-risk of dropping out of school and who may need additional assistance in their daily lives.
The organization is well‑respected and has grown tremendously over the past years.
Serving 7 school districts across four counties, the organization has a budget of approximately $5.4 Million and serves approximately 40,000 students and young adults with preventive and intervention services. The six components that make up CIS of South Central Texas are supportive guidance and counseling, health and human services, parental and family engagement, college and career awareness, educational enrichment, and academic support.
Position SummaryThe Project Success Coordinator provides comprehensive support to high school students as they pursue their post‑graduation goals. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining a curriculum that guides students through pathways to higher education, the workforce, and military service. By fostering strong, collaborative relationships, the Project Success Coordinator works closely with Site Coordinators, campus counselors, college and career center staff, parents, and community partners to ensure each student has a clear plan and the resources necessary to achieve their personal aspirations.
EssentialDuties, Responsibilities, & Competencies
The essential functions of the Project Success Coordinator include, but are not limited to, the following:
Student Support & Advising- Solicit student referrals from school administrators, counselors, faculty, Communities In Schools (CIS) staff, community partners, and self‑referrals from students.
- Provide individualized career, workforce, and postsecondary counseling—including case management—to motivate and guide students toward higher education, military, or workforce opportunities.
- Refer students to CIS or community resources for therapeutic counseling and ongoing support services as needed.
- Maintain a student‑centered philosophy grounded in the belief that all students can achieve their goals, regardless of prior performance.
- Facilitate Project Success lessons weekly at assigned high schools.
- Develop and implement special programs, activities, and events aligned with the Project Success mission.
- Support students in completing college admissions steps, including applications, essays, financial aid forms, and required testing (ACT, SAT, TSI, etc.).
- Provide guidance to students and families on college admissions, financial aid, scholarships, and other postsecondary processes, including hosting parent information sessions.
- Facilitate workforce development programming to ensure non‑college‑bound students are connected to high‑demand local employers.
- Build and sustain a strong college‑going and workforce‑ready culture on campus.
- Actively support scholarship exploration, applications, and award processes.
- Ensure, to the greatest extent possible, that every senior applies to a four‑year university, two‑year college, technical program, or military branch aligned with their goals and interests.
- Coordinate workforce field trips, employer connections, and opportunities for career exploration.
- Provide “extra support” to students to overcome barriers—transportation, scheduling, documentation, testing, or other needs—to ensure they remain on track.
- Establish and maintain positive, professional relationships with students, school administrators, counselors, CIS staff, parents, and community partners.
