Job Title
Help special education teacher provide for physical and instructional needs of students with disabilities in special education setting. Assist in implementation of classroom programs, including self-help, behavior management, and instruction programs. Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.
Education/CertificationHigh school diploma or GED
Educational Aide Certificate issued by SBEC
Paraprofessional Assessment Certificate, Associates Degree or two years (48 semester hours) of college
Ability to work with children with disabilities
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively
Knowledge of general office equipment
Instructional SupportWheelchair lift, ramps, personal computer, copier, typewriter, and audiovisual equipment
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental FactorsStandard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals
Prolonged sitting; occasional bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and twisting
Repetitive hand motions including frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; occasional reaching
Occasional light lifting and carrying
May work prolonged or irregular hours; occasional district wide travel
Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress Occasional district wide and statewide travel; frequent prolonged and irregular hours.
