Salary Ranges
- Transportation Engineer Tech I (A16): $40,918 - $61,130
- Transportation Engineer Tech II (A18): $45,521 - $71,055
This position is for (1) Transportation Engineer Tech I or II. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Transportation Engineer Tech I
- Prepares field notes.
- Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right‑of‑way maps.
- Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Transportation Engineer Tech II
- In addition to the duties listed above.
- Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.
- Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.

High School Grad or Equivalent in general high school studies. - Experience
:
Transportation Engineer Tech I – No Experience Required;
Transportation Engineer Tech II – 2 years of experience in drafting, design, plan preparation. (Experience can be satisfied by full‑time or prorated part time equivalent. Related college education or relevant technical training may be substituted for experience on a year per year basis.) - Licenses and Certifications
:
Valid driver’s license. This position requires driving a state vehicle. - Interactive graphic and design information systems
- Using computers, applicable programs, applications, and systems
- Follow verbal and written instructions
- Performing basic design and drafting
- Intermediate design and hand and computer‑aided drafting procedures
- Higher mathematics
- Training in a classroom, office, or field environment
- Subject to outside environmental conditions; no effective weather protection
- Subject to noise
- Subject to hazards – moving vehicles/mechanical parts, high places/heat, or chemicals
