Annual Salary Ranges:
- Transportation Engineer I (B24) - $65,104 - $106,634
- Transportation Engineer II (B25) - $69,572 - $114,099
- Transportation Engineer III (B26): $76,530- $129,430
- Transportation Engineer IV (B27): $84,182- $142,374
- Transportation Engineer V (B28): $92,600- $156,612
This position is for (1) Transportation Engineer I, II, III, IV or V. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Position Description
Performs highly advanced and complex transportation engineering work in one or more functional areas such as planning, project development and design, construction, transportation/traffic operations, maintenance and research. Ensures compliance with applicable federal and state laws, policies, procedures, standards and guidelines. Work requires contact with governmental officials and private entities. Employees at this level are virtually self-supervising and assume direct accountability for the work product.
Essential Duties:
- Transportation Engineer I Assists Project Managers with design, computer operations, plan preparation, plan updates, project development, survey requests and correspondence. Performs engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
- Transportation Engineer II In addition to the duties listed above Performs complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Updates, reviews, monitors, and reviews requests for changes to plans, manuals and standard sheets. Develops and reviews engineering related documents, correspondence, reports and remediation plans.
- Transportation Engineer III In addition to the duties listed above Performs advanced and complex engineering design work such as development of layouts, sketches, plans, specifications, estimates and contracts. Trains engineering staff.
- Transportation Engineer IV In addition to the duties listed above Analyzes and assists in the resolution of construction issues, RFI's, and design related issues. Serves as a project manager overseeing consultants performing advanced and complex engineering work.
- Transportation Engineer V In addition to the duties listed above Serves as lead work, leading, assigning, reviewing, and monitoring the work of others and serves as a project/team lead for advanced and highly complex projects. Will also Lead/Train professional and administrative staff.

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS. - Experience:
