Designer/Drafter
Create manufacturing drawings for expansion joints in collaboration with our engineering and planning teams. Model in 3d and 2d to facilitate purchasing, planning, manufacturing, quality control, testing and shipping in compliance with the requirements of the customer, code, company standards and manufacturing capabilities. Develop a working knowledge of our products and processes including the materials, functions, and specific manufacturing needs. Apply a high level of attention to detail across multi-disciplinary topics to produce high quality drawings with minimal errors.
Our industry requires emergency response, so at times we work additional hours to meet the needs of our customers.
Prepare and check 3d models and 2d drawings in Solid Works that support compliance with the requirements of the customer, code, company standards and manufacturing capabilities. Apply various ASME code, customer and company requirements in clear language that communicates necessary information. Recommend and implement changes to resolve conformance issues. Communicate changes or problems resulting in deviations from what was sold or specified.
Conference with internal personnel as needed to discuss design problem areas and to ensure that the products meet all requirements. Assess and provide sufficient product views and details to communicate information needed for fabrication. Work closely with all departments to ensure that the drawings convey the necessary information and are error free. Check 2D and 3D parts and assemblies for interference using scale views and animation.
Recommend or make dimensional adjustments as necessary. Consider manufacturability issues. For example, is there access to make each weld? Perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned over a 40 hour work week with potential for additional hours as work demands.
Professional, enthusiastic, self-starter w/ability to take ownership of projects from start to finish and work in fast paced office environment with engineering challenges. A detail oriented team player committed to continuous improvement in engineering and manufacturing. An individual with a good work ethic committed to getting it right the first time. Must have good time management skills and a drive to meet due dates.
Willingness to learn, try things outside the norm and think outside the box for design solutions. Able to work with minimum supervision and capable of self-checking for completeness and accuracy of work produced. Motivated learner with a desire to become a subject matter expert in expansion joints and all related manufacturing topics. Certified Solidworks Associate (CSWA) certification or higher preferred, CAD/ Design or 5 years relevant experience.
1 year drawing/designing specific product experience a plus. Associates Degree in Engineering Technology (or equal) or five years experience creating 2D drawings from 3D models. Computer literate in Microsoft Office. Experience in industries using ASME Section VIII, B31.3 and B31.1 design codes a plus. Drafting experience in heavy metal fabrication, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, or piping assemblies a plus.
