Position Summary

Specific Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead financial studies and multi-company financial planning and analyses, including merger & acquisition evaluation, strategic planning, business development, and operational efficiency/savings analyses.
  • Oversee budgeting and forecasting for H2O America’s CT & ME Water operations and provide support for shared services or other subsidiaries as needed.
M&A and Business Development
  • Develop and manage complex forecast models and performance metrics to evaluate potential business transactions, including economic alliances, mergers, acquisitions, capital projects, and divestitures.
  • Conduct comprehensive industry and company research to inform strategic decisions.
  • Prepare sophisticated financial models and valuation analyses to support executive recommendations.
  • Lead due diligence efforts and coordinate cross-functional teams throughout transaction processes.
  • Create high-impact presentations and documentation for senior leadership and Board review.
  • Track progress and manage deal timelines to ensure timely execution.
  • Maintain expertise on M&A trends and developments within the utility sector.
Financial Analysis
  • Deliver advanced financial analysis of monthly and year-to-date results versus budget and prior year, identifying root causes of variances and providing actionable insights.
  • Analyze trends and key drivers to recommend strategies for performance improvement.
  • Collaborate in preparing monthly and quarterly business performance reviews for CT & ME Water Business Units.
  • Partner closely with Business Unit leaders to provide data-driven insights that influence operational and strategic decisions.
  • Lead preparation of the 5-year strategic plan and associated cash flow modeling.
  • Conduct analyses related to operations and future capital programs or other assigned projects; prepare reports and presentations with clear recommendations.
  • Develop and implement advanced techniques and models for financial planning and analysis.
  • Perform detailed analysis, fact verification, and research on complex subject matters as needed.
  • Lead complex financial forecasting studies, including regulated utility models and related regulatory analysis.
  • Support other high-priority projects required by senior management.
  • Partner with accounting, budgeting, regulatory affairs, legal, and tax teams as appropriate.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Expert knowledge and application of generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Ability to review and analyze complex accounting and financial data at an executive level.
  • Ability to identify financial implications of complex agreements and legal documents.
  • Advanced financial modeling and analytical skills with proven experience in valuation and scenario analysis.
  • In-depth knowledge of financial plan preparation and administration, accounting, and financial reporting; economics, statistical analysis, forecasting techniques, and computer modeling.
  • Demonstrated mastery of the financial planning & analysis function within a regulated utility environment.
  • Strong mindset for continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with regulated utilities and related financial frameworks.
Communication Skills
  • Listens objectively to various viewpoints, synthesizes complex data quickly, and responds appropriately to diverse stakeholders across multiple communication channels.
  • Prepares and delivers compelling, concise, and persuasive presentations for senior leadership and Board audiences.
