POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Medical Directors and management staff, provides state of the art laboratory specimen testing, including phlebotomy, from neonates to geriatric patients ensuring patient safety. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned. General Functions:

Processes and tests blood and other body fluid specimens for the clinical laboratory

Reviews test results and applies the correct clinical interpretation of that data

Reports lab results accurately and responsively, to include use of a laboratory information system

Performs operation, maintenance and advanced troubleshooting of laboratory instrumentation and equipment

Performs venous and capillary phlebotomy and ensures specimen integrity as necessary.

Education:

MINIMUM EDUCATION:

Bachelors Degree from an approved college or university and/or graduate of an

accredited school of medical technology, or equivalent such as military training as defined by 42 CFR . Personnel who, prior to 2/28/92 have qualified at the Medical Technologist level by achieving a satisfactory grade on a HHS examination. The above meets required criteria as defined by CLIA regulations for High Complexity testing (42 CFR , Jan. 24, 2003).

Experience:

Required:

2 years as a medical technologist in acute care facility OR 1 year as a medical technologist in acute care facility and a Master’s degree

Certifications:

Required:

Registered with an approved certifying agency (ASCP, NCA, AMT or CSMLS within 12 months of hire). Equivalency evaluation by ECE, NACES or AICE for non-US trained personnel must be completed within 30 days of hire. Licensure, as required by State. Once certified, no annual renewals are required
