The Pharmacy Tech II assists in preparing, packaging, delivering and charging of medications under the supervision of a licensed pharmacist. Completes established competencies for the position within designated introductory period. Other related duties as assigned.
Responsibilities- Accurately fills medication orders with correct strength, dosage form, and quantity in a timely manner.
- Assures all medications are checked by a pharmacist prior to dispensing.
- Responds appropriately to requests for STAT orders, routine orders, department requests and ADC stock out bulletins. Accurately stock ADCs in a timely manner.
- Prepackages and labels oral medications and extemporaneous preparations.
- Prepares IV sterile admixture solutions and IV products accurately consistent with IV policies and procedures. Restocks medications in IV room and conforms to IV cleaning schedule.
- Interprets medication labels to compounds, prepares and maintains records of transactions.
- Prepares outpatient prescriptions for review by pharmacist.
- Prepares unit dose tablets capsules and liquids, and surgical drugs and other specialty drug trays.
- Assists the pharmacist with the dispensing of controlled substances to patient care areas and maintains records.
- Maintain adequate medication stock levels and proper storage of medications.
MINIMUM EDUCATION: High School Graduate or equivalent; accredited training in sterile products preparation.
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: Pharmacy experience.
PREFFERED
EXPERIENCE:
Two years hospital experience.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURE: Possession of current Texas State Board of Pharmacy Technician License;
Pharmacy Technician Certification (depending on state regulations) required.
