Primary Purpose
Supervise assigned department personnel to provide and maintain a safe, clean learning environment for students, staff and visitors.
Education / Certification- High school diploma or GED.
- Associate’s degree is preferred.
- Knowledge of budget management, public sector procurement, inventory systems and controls.
- Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of equipment, chemicals, and materials used in cleaning processes.
- Knowledge of minor repair techniques and building and maintenance.
- Ability to organize, to delegate and to supervise employees. Possess ability to work effectively with departmental supervisors and school administrators.
- Background in training and possess the ability to assist in the development and conduct training classes/sessions.
- Knowledge of general industry safety measures and working knowledge of a personal computer.
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
- Minimum of five years of experience supervising custodial personnel.
- Possess a Texas Class “C” license with demonstrated safety record.
- Proficient in English (verbal and written skills).
- Personal cell phone is required to handle district related business, including after hours, or when away from the office on district business.
- Establishes and oversees schedules and procedures for the regular custodial care of all district facilities.
- Works cooperatively with principals and facilities managers to ensure a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency of building operations.
- Schedules and supervises summer custodial projects, including cleaning and refinishing floors.
- Coordinates and facilitates the appropriate training of all new and existing custodial personnel.
- Arranges for contract labor when work cannot be performed by district staff.
- Inspects all district buildings and facilities and initiates cleaning and repairs as needed.
- Estimates the cost and time required for special projects and order materials.
- Tests and recommends custodial supplies and equipment to be used.
- Instructs assigned personnel on proper and safe use of tools and equipment.
- Operates tools, equipment, and machinery according to prescribed safety procedures.
- Follows established safety procedures and techniques to perform job duties, including lifting, climbing, etc.
- Ensures that vehicles, equipment, and tools are in safe operating condition.
- Inspects and adjusts tools and equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Corrects unsafe conditions in work areas and reports any conditions that are not correctable to supervisor immediately.
- Coordinates the storage and use of grounds equipment, tools, and supplies.
- Prepares, implements, and maintains preventive maintenance and repair procedures for equipment and tools.
- Orders equipment and supplies and maintain accurate records.
- Recommends disposal of obsolete equipment and purchases replacement equipment when necessary.
- Conducts annual inventory of physical equipment and supplies.
- Works irregular hours and respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed.
- Assists in preparation of department budget.
- Consults as needed with District construction personnel on all new construction.
- Oversees the recruiting, screening, hiring, training, and evaluation of assigned employees.
- Maintains accurate information for payroll reporting (time cards, tardiness, and absenteeism).
- Develops standards and procedures for custodial operations / applications.
- Acts as a resource to facility administrators/head custodians in technical and administrative custodial areas.
- Schedules, coordinates and conducts management assistance visits with facility administrators/head custodians to ensure District policies and procedures are followed and provide feedback on findings for corrective action.
- Responsible for properly maintaining district records, adhering to all policies set forth by the district for records maintenance and learning the records retention schedule for department records.
- Other duties as Assigned.
Supervises assigned staff members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
