The Role

The Executive Director of Safety & Compliance provides the strategic vision and operational leadership necessary to protect the organization’s workforce, assets, and reputation. This position is responsible for the strategic direction, implementation, and oversight of all health, safety, and environmental (HSE) programs across company-wide operations and ensures 100% regulatory compliance while fostering a high-performance safety culture. Additionally, the Executive Director of Safety & Compliance will be leading and overseeing all aspects of Quality Management within the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Drive and Execute Strategies for a high-performance safety culture
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive corporate safety vision that aligns with organizational goals.
  • Ensure all operations meet or exceed OSHA, DOT, and EPA standards, as well as state and local regulations.
  • Oversee periodic internal audits and objective "conformance testing" to identify operational vulnerabilities before they lead to incidents.
  • Oversee root cause analysis (RCA) for major incidents and implement corrective action plans to prevent recurrence.
  • Design and lead enterprise-wide safety training programs, including OSHA 30-hour and site-specific orientations.
  • Manage the department budget, including resource allocation for safety technology and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Partner with the C-suite to align safety initiatives with broader business objectives, reporting regularly on KPIs and risk exposure.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response protocols and serve as the primary liaison for regulatory authorities during inspections.
Quality & Compliance
  • Meet and Exceed Customer Requirements and Regulatory Standards
  • Implement and maintain a Quality Management System that is compliant with industry standards (ISO 9001).
  • Serve as primary point of contact for Quality related issues, communicating with customers, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Quality into all stages of service delivery.
  • Develop and support a vendor qualification and maintenance program.
  • Develop an audit program for all properties owned and/or managed by THS
  • Conduct and/or facilitate compliance training.
  • Manage auditing staff who ensure compliance with Environmental, Safety, and Health standards.
  • Assess that Food Safety standards are aligned with industry best practices and ensure vendor compliance.
Continuous Learning
  • Ability to implement a Knowledge Management structure that is compliant with ISO 9001 and managed with a Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Sponsor, lead, and support Continuous Learning, training programs and employee engagement in the development of procedures and documentation.
  • Create and support a Knowledge and Skills assessment program.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field
  • Masters in a technical concentration (Engineering, Data Analysis, etc.)
  • 10–15+ years of progressive safety leadership experience specifically within the construction or heavy industrial sectors
  • ASQ Certification (CQE or CWM/OE) preferred.
  • Six or more years in Quality Management required.
  • Five or more years in Project Management preferred.
  • Proven experience with ISO 9001.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, such as Word, Excel, Visio, MS Project, and Power Point.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent strategic thinking skills, communication and presentation skills, and analytical skills.
