The Systems Resource Nurse supports high quality, patient‑centered care by offering feedback, guidance, and mentoring to new graduate nurses and/or nurses transitioning to a new specialty across multiple units. They provide guidance and education on the hospital’s standard of nursing practice, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with all accrediting and regulatory agency requirements.

The Systems Resource Nurse assists with implementation of nursing care plans, collaborates with licensed nurses, and mentors new nurses as they transition to specialty roles.

• Participate in implementation of nursing care plans by performing direct and indirect patient care under supervision of licensed nurse.
• Obtain and record initial and ongoing patient information throughout the cycle of care, including admissions data, vital signs, height and weight, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, blood glucose levels, intake and output, and calorie counts.
• Document observations, interactions, patient responses to activities, and physical or behavioral changes; report observations to RN/Team Leader.
• Assist with mobility, turning, positioning, ambulation, and use of walkers, crutches, canes, and wheelchairs; transfer patients between units and assist with discharges.
• Provide or assist with non‑medicated support care, including non‑sterile dressing changes, skin protection, application of heat or ice, oxygen delivery, and venous compression devices.
• Perform non‑medicated support tasks such as oral suctioning, enema, catheterization and Foley catheter removal, drain maintenance, and basic wound care, increasing task difficulty as competency is verified.
• Obtain or assist in collection of specimens for diagnostic or waived tests; ensure accurate labeling and timely transfer.
• Retrieve medication from pharmacy, storage room, or tube system and deliver to licensed staff member as instructed.
• Assist with patient preparation for surgery or other procedures.
• Assist patients with activities of daily living, including eating and drinking, bathing, shaving, oral care, grooming, and elimination; change bed linens as needed.
• Perform hourly rounding and respond promptly to call lights and patient requests, anticipating needs and resolving them proactively.
• Follow patient and employee safety/security policies and protocols, including hand hygiene, universal precautions, PPE, and isolation procedures.
• Prepare and maintain clean, hazard‑free patient rooms; empty trash and remove soiled linens.
• Assist with patient/family/caregiver learning needs, identify barriers to learning, and integrate information into patient’s plan of care.
• Translate complex medical terminology to ensure patients or families understand medical condition, treatment plan, medications, side effects, and follow‑up measures.

• Education:
  
  Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (Master’s preferred).
• Experience:
  
  Minimum 2 years as an RN; 1+ year in a leadership role or as a preceptor preferred.
• Licensure:
  Registered Nurse license in state(s) of practice or active compact license.
• Certifications:
  
  Basic Life Support (BLS) within 30 days of hire;
  Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS);
  Preceptor Training within 90 days; NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) within 30 days;
  Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) within 90 days;
  Business Emergency Response Training (BERT) within 90 days;
  Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) within 12 months;
  Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 12 months.
