Position Overview

This role is responsible for performing operation and maintenance on enterprise distribution assets including fire hydrants, valves, valve boxes, water meters, meter boxes, hydrant and valve flushing, water service lines, and all other appurtenances related to the water distribution system. While adhering to safety protocols, this role combines mechanical, communication, and collaboration skills to deliver world‑class service to H2O America customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Safely and efficiently perform repairs on distribution assets—including mains, services, etc.—within the required specifications.
  • Perform activities to maintain distribution assets including flushing mains, hydrant upkeep, valve exercising, service boxes, and others.
  • Install assets and make repairs on mains, hydrants, services, valves, and meters.
  • Perform customer service work including meter installations, valve operations, meter reading, investigative work, and other activities related to service delivery.
  • Perform call‑before‑you‑dig activities in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Perform connection and testing in compliance with State Department of Health.
  • Ensure assigned vehicle cleanliness and equipment maintenance.
  • Respond to urgent service delivery issues; be able to work off‑shift hours and weekends.
  • Adhere to learning, following, and ensuring compliance with all company policies and safety rules—including the Company Safety Manual, OSHA regulations, and other state, federal, or governing body rules.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED and/or 6 months of relevant professional experience.
  • Valid Driver’s License with acceptable Motor Vehicle Record.
  • Ability to obtain a Class D Water Distribution License within a reasonable amount of time.
  • Holds relevant certifications required for the team’s need or directed by management.
  • Proven mechanical abilities.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Customer Service Experience Preferred.
  • Ability to participate in physical activities including lifting, bending, squatting, reaching, kneeling, climbing, and working in awkward positions, as well as using heavy‑weight tools and materials.
