Loader Operator - Underground Utilities Division
D&M Owens Inc. is seeking a dependable and safety-focused Loader Operator to support our Underground Utilities Division. This role is responsible for operating a front-end loader to move, load, and distribute materials essential for utility installation, including pipe bedding, backfill, sand, aggregate, spoil piles, and job site supplies. The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of construction environments, works well within small crews, and can maintain steady production while prioritizing safety around trenching and underground work.
Key ResponsibilitiesSafely operate a front-end loader to load trucks, move materials, maintain stockpiles, and support pipe crews. Transport bedding, sand, aggregate, and backfill material to trench locations as needed. Load haul trucks with accuracy while maintaining safe distances and communication. Assist in job site setup, including moving barricades, backfill material, and equipment. Maintain clean and organized stockpiles and work zones. Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the loader;
report mechanical issues immediately. Conduct routine maintenance such as fueling, greasing, and cleaning equipment. Support the crew by performing general labor tasks, such as shoveling, spotting, trench prep, or pipe handling when needed. Follow all company safety policies and OSHA excavation safety requirements. Work efficiently around open trenches, utilities, and congested work areas.
Previous experience operating a front-end loader in a construction environment required. Experience working around underground utilities, trenching, or excavation strongly preferred. Ability to operate equipment safely in tight, high-risk environments. Strong communication skills—must work closely with pipe crews, operators, and truck drivers. Must be able to lift 50+ lbs., and work outdoors in all weather conditions. Must be reliable, punctual, and safety-oriented.
Valid drivers license required; CDL preferred but not required.
Outdoor job sites with exposure to dirt, dust, weather, uneven terrain, active trenches, and heavy equipment. Small, specialized crews that rely on teamwork and clear communication. Fast-paced and production-focused work environment.
Schedule & PayFull-time, Monday–Friday (occasional Saturdays depending on project needs). Competitive hourly wage based on experience. Overtime available.
