D&M Owens Inc. is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Laborer to support our Underground Utilities Division. This position plays a critical role in assisting with the installation of water lines, sewer systems, storm drains, and other underground utility infrastructure. The ideal candidate is hardworking, attentive to safety, and comfortable working in and around trenches, equipment, and active construction zones.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with underground utility installation, including digging, trench preparation, pipe handling, and back filling.
- Work alongside operators and pipelayers to support pipe installation for water, sewer, and storm systems.
- Use hand tools such as shovels, rakes, tampers, and compactors to prepare and maintain trenches.
- Install bedding material, check grade, and support compaction efforts.
- Set up and maintain trench safety systems such as trench boxes or shoring (under supervision).
- Assist with job site setup, traffic control, and daily cleanup.
- Spot equipment, direct trucks, and maintain a safe working zone around heavy machinery.
- Follow all OSHA and company safety policies, especially excavation and confined-space rules.
- Communicate clearly with the Foreman, Operators, and other crew members to maintain workflow.
- Perform general labor duties as needed to ensure production and job site safety.
- Previous construction or utility installation experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to work safely in and around trenches, heavy equipment, and underground utilities.
- Strong physical stamina; able to lift 50+ lbs. and perform repetitive manual tasks.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions (heat, rain, cold).
- Basic understanding of tools, equipment, and safe work practices.
- Reliable transportation to the shop or job sites.
- Good attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn.
- Valid driver's license preferred; CDL is a plus.
Outdoor job sites with exposure to uneven terrain, trenches, dirt, mud, and weather. Close proximity to heavy equipment and moving machinery. Fast-paced, production-driven environment requiring constant awareness and teamwork.
Schedule & Pay- Full-time, Monday–Friday (occasional Saturdays depending on project demands).
- Competitive hourly wage based on experience. Overtime available.
