The Mechanical Technician/Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repairs, and preventive maintenance of the hospital buildings, equipment, and physical plant. Duties also include preventive maintenance of all refrigerators and ice machines, meeting competency requirements within the designated introductory period, and performing related duties as assigned.
This position may qualify for a sign‑on bonus.
Responsibilities- Perform maintenance on all refrigerated items and keep service logs including Freon usage.
- Conduct preventive maintenance on a wide range of hospital and HVAC equipment.
- Replace light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, switches, plugs, receptacles, ballast, and repair faucets, commodes, and other fixtures.
- Maintain refrigeration, heating, cooling, boilers, chillers, vacuum pumps, medical air compressors, and associated plant equipment.
- Run errands and assist with moving furniture, boxes, and heavy objects.
- Document all work on appropriate logs and work orders.
- Work assigned shifts and on‑call responsibilities as required by the facility’s schedule.
- Utilize resources efficiently and effectively, maintaining a safe environment.
- Participate in performance improvement activities.
- Minimum Education: High School Graduate or equivalent.
- Preferred Education: Trade school in mechanical, electrical, or air conditioning.
- Minimum Experience: 5 years in a hospital or 7 years similar experience in an industrial environment.
- Preferred Experience: 10 years hospital experience.
- Required Certifications/Licensure: EPA Refrigerant Recovery Certification; training certification in mechanical and air conditioning.
- Preferred Certifications/Licensure: EPA Certification Refrigeration License.
- Required Courses/Completions: None specified.
