D&M Owens Inc. is seeking a dependable, skilled Asphalt Raker to support our Paving Division. This position plays a critical role in ensuring high-quality asphalt placement and smooth, level surfaces on roads, parking lots, and construction projects. The ideal candidate has hands-on paving experience, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently as part of a fast-paced crew.
Key ResponsibilitiesDistribute, level, and smooth hot asphalt using handheld tools including rakes, lutes, and shovels. Work closely with the paving crew to achieve proper grade, depth, and uniformity of asphalt placement. Assist with the setup and cleanup of job sites, including preparing work areas and removing debris. Support paver and roller operators by adjusting mat edges, filling low spots, and maintaining consistent flow.
Ensure all work meets quality standards for compaction, drainage, and finish. Monitor material temperature and communicate issues or inconsistencies to the Foreman. Use hand tools safely and maintain them in proper working condition. Follow all company safety procedures, PPE requirements, and traffic control guidelines. Perform general labor tasks when needed to support overall production.
Previous experience in asphalt paving or road construction preferred. Strong physical stamina and ability to work long hours on your feet. Ability to work in hot weather and outdoor environments. Good understanding of paving techniques and asphalt behavior is a plus. Strong teamwork, communication, and reliability are essential. Must be able to lift 50+ lbs., and handle repetitive physical tasks. Valid drivers license required;
CDL preferred but not required.
Outdoor work in all weather conditions, especially heat. Fast-paced paving crew operations with traffic, machinery, and high-temperature materials. Small, specialized crews that rely heavily on communication and teamwork.
Schedule & PayFull-time, Monday–Friday (occasional Saturdays depending on workload).Competitive hourly wage based on experience. Overtime is common and available.
