Primary Purpose:Selects and trains qualified School Bus Drivers according to Comal ISD established guidelines and legal requirements. Provides on-going training and performance evaluations for all Driver employees, assists management in administration of the site's entire safety program including industrial safety. Maintains the highest level of ethical behavior with Campus Administrators, fellow employees and our community.
Education / Certification:High School Diploma or GED.Some college to include education / training courses is preferred.Class B CDL license w / P&S endorsements.Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate.Must complete TEEX Training Academy certification program for school bus driver instructors within 60 days of employment or 1st available regional class.Must complete Vehicle Collision Investigation through TASB within one year of employment.Must complete Supervisor Training - Drug Detection and Deterrence as required by CFR 49 Part 40 within one year of employment.Must be certified or willing to obtain certification by the Texas Association of Pupil Transportation (TAPT) as a Pupil Transportation Official, Supervisor, Specialist or Trainer.Special Knowledge / Skills:Ability to work effectively with campus principals, staff, students, and parents.Strong organization skills and group presentation skills.Excellent interpersonal skills and well developed written and verbal communication skills.Must be knowledgeable in adult training techniques and possess a mechanical aptitude, and strong leadership skills.Computer literate, preferably in word processing, Access, and spreadsheets.Basic math skills, detail orientation, mapping and routing skills.Experience / Other Requirements:Five or more years of general work experience.Three years in the school bus industry is preferred.Must have and maintain clean safety record with zero accidents/incidents within the last 12 consecutive months.Major Responsibilities and Duties:Develops and implements a twelve months schedule that includes training a sufficient number of drivers to sustain full employment, recruitment, training, orientation and safety programs.Organizes and supervises the implementation of an approved State "School Bus Driver Training Course," monitoring it and recommending upgrades to the course as necessary.Responsible for emphasizing the drivers' role and impact on children's educational performance throughout training & orientation.Refreshes and broadens the driving skills of existing employees who operate Comal ISD owned leased vehicles.Develops, schedules and presents Driver Field In-Service training to meet the needs of the Comal ISD.Develops and conducts regularly scheduled Driver Safety Meeting Workshops.Assists Director in preparation of the Budget and subsequent analysis of variance.Supervises Comal ISD Safety Program in compliance with the "Right to Know," OSHA, and policies and procedures.Provides initial training and in-service for Behind-the-Wheel Road Trainers and periodically evaluates their performance.Identifies and develops potential candidates for TEEX Training Academy Certification program.Performs Driver Orientation in conjunction with the Area Supervisor, Shop Supervisor and Director of Transportation.Supervises the Accident Review Committee, maintains minutes of each meeting, reviews and discusses Committee recommendations with the Area Supervisor. Initiates driver retraining according to Comal ISD guidelines.Participates / advises administration about inclement weather conditions that may result in the closing of schools or road hazards.Coordinates and trains for district and region School Bus Road-e-o.Coordinates on campus student rider safety training with school personnel.Instructs all trainees in proper completion of daily paper work.Documents and maintains all training records as required by State and Federal regulations and Comal ISD policies. Files shall be maintained to document the progress of each Trainee and all In-Service training for each driver in accordance with Comal ISD policy and procedures.Screens all driver applicants through the use of written applications,…
