Transportation Maintenance Technician
TxDOT's New Braunfels Maintenance office is responsible for maintaining around 800 miles of the State's highway and roadway systems throughout Comal and parts of surrounding counties. Our Transportation Maintenance Technicians are the heart of TxDOT and play a vital role in ensuring a safe throughway for the traveling public. In this role you will be responsible for maintaining roadways and signs, debris pick-up and heavy equipment operation just to name a few.

Annual Salary Ranges:
- Transportation Maintenance Technician I (A16) - $40,918 - $61,130
- Transportation Maintenance Technician II (A17) - $42,976 - $64,469
- Transportation Maintenance Technician III (A18) - $45,521 - $71,055
This position is for one (1) Transportation Maintenance Tech I, II or III. The Texas Department of Transportation reserves the sole right in determining the level of position based on the applicant's work experience, education, skill level and all other appropriate factors, and based on business needs.

Performs moderately complex transportation operations or maintenance support work such as: maintenance contract and material and process inspections; roadway maintenance and repair; light and heavy equipment operation; preventive and minor maintenance on equipment, traffic control; and helping the public during emergency situations. Work requires contact with private entities. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties:
Transportation Maintenance Tech I Assists in identifying, repairing and installing signs, delineators, mailbox supports and posts; performs basic welding as needed; as required uses/moves equipment/tools, materials and products related to these activities. Assists with traffic control; places and gathers cones, warning signs and barricades; flags traffic. Determines placement of traffic control devices and installs/moves devices. Inspects barricades to ensure compliance with barricade standards.
Maintains highways and rights-of-way; performs roadway repairs; erects and repairs guard rails, highway markers and signs; hauls materials and equipment to job sites. Move/picks up litter and roadway debris. Mows rights-of-way and picnic and rest areas; performs plant and landscape maintenance including trimming trees and brush. Operates complex heavy equipment such as a motor grader, large excavator, heavy bulldozer, crane, herbicide truck, heavy asphalt paving machine, self-propelled asphalt distributor, and profiling/milling machine.
Operates heavy equipment such as a front-end loader one and a half cubic yards or more, tractor-trailer haul truck, large dragline, shovel, paint striper, and dump truck. Operates light…
