We look for a dedicated professional to support students with special needs in our middle school setting. The role involves instructional support, behavioral support, and student assistance across classroom, classroom, and community settings.
Position Title: Middle School Special Education Paraprofessional
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Hours: Monday thru Friday, 6.5 hours per day with a 30-minute unpaid break (7 total hrs/day)
Start Date: August 26, 2026 (may vary slightly)
Job Summary: The Special Education Paraprofessional provides instructional and support services to students with special needs in classrooms, other learning sites, and community settings. This role involves assisting students in developing self-advocacy skills, greater independence, and managing their behaviors. Responsibilities include monitoring and recording student behaviors, implementing instructional plans, and providing physical and emotional support to students.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Instructional Support
- Instruct and support students with special needs in various settings, assisting in developing self-advocacy skills and independence.
- Meet with teachers to determine appropriate student performance levels, instructional modifications, and assignments.
- Assist in implementing daily instructional plans and provide input on student needs.
- Occasionally supervise students in modified learning areas, assist with assignments, and present recommendations to teachers and support staff.
- Administer, correct, and grade worksheets and tests, record grades, assign work, and assume responsibility for small instructional groups or classrooms when the teacher is temporarily out.
- Prepare classroom materials, file documents, and complete student evaluation sheets.
- Behavioral Support
- Monitor, evaluate, and record classroom behaviors, problem-solve, and discuss appropriate behavior expectations with students.
- Provide appropriate redirections for misbehavior (break, problem-solving, or modified learning area).
- Implement physical restraints if necessary for student safety according to individual student plans and District policy (district-provided training required).
- Student Assistance
- Provide assistance with personal hygiene, medical needs, toileting, diapering, lifting, writing, feeding, and boarding or getting off buses.
- Supervise students during lunch, in hallways, and on field trips to ensure orderly conduct.
- Work with educational professionals and administrators on student needs and curriculum development.
- Participate in district committees and attend IEP and 504 meetings.
- Attend staff meetings to discuss students' academic, behavioral, and vocational progress with appropriate staff.
- Communication
- Communicate with students, families, and district personnel regarding student progress.
- Professional Development
- Mentor other instructional staff and student teachers.
- Participate in staff development activities.
- Additional Duties
- Must be able to lift.
- Perform other duties as necessary or assigned.
Physical Requirements
- Degree
- A high school diploma or GED and one of the following:
- An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
- Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education applicable toward a bachelor's degree, or
- Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the Para Pro Assessment or a passing score on Para educator Online (for more information, contact Educational Testing Service at or visit (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). )
- A high school diploma or GED and one of the following:
- Experience
- Healthcare experience or training may be required.
- Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to walk throughout a building and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with assistance or push up to 90 pounds.
- Must be able to restrain students when needed.
- May be required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Hourly Range: $20.24/hour - $24.74/hour
- Hourly placement is based on experience, as per district guidelines.
