Youth Sports Officials officiate recreational youth sports leagues and instruct players on game rules while providing a safe and fun environment for participants. Games are played by participants under the age of 18. Referees cannot officiate games of participants older than themselves.
The youth sports season will run from approximately June 1-October 31, 2026. Games during the summer season will be played Monday-Thursday evenings and game times are planned to be 6:00 pm and/or 7:30 pm. Games during the fall season will be played on Saturday mornings and game times are planned to be 9:00 am and/or 10:30 am.
Applicants selected for an interview will be notifiedafter Friday, March 27. After March 27, applicaitons will be reviewed until May 4, or until positions are filled.
Responsibilities- Know, understand, follow and enforce all program policies, rules, and regulations.
- Officiate youth sports leagues according to age and league appropriate handbooks and uses judgement to maintain fairness.
- Maintain an enthusiastic, fun, and educational environment during league games.
- Communicate with players, coaches, and spectators in a professional manner.
- Correct play and explain game rules to players.
- Responsible for attending all trainings, workshops, and staff meetings.
- Ensure a positive playing environment while maintaining control.
- Assists in keeping records and preparing reports such as incident and accident reports.
- Adhere to work schedule and hours assigned.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 13 years of age.
- One year of experience playing and/or officiating soccer.
- American Red Cross CPR/FA/AED Certification within 60 days of hire.
- NAYS Concusion Training (can obtain prior to officiating first game/match)
- Knowledge of various sports rules, such as soccer or volleyball.
- Move and/or lift materials and/or equipment.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Walk, jog, run, etc. for short periods at a time.
- Hear noises and distress signals (tornado/server storm siren) in an outdoor environment.
- Communicate effectively with people in normal, loud, and stressful situations, including projecting one's voice across distance.
- Two seasons of experience playing and/or officiating soccer.
- Experience working/volunteering with youth.
- Referee/sports official certification from a credible organization.
- At least 16 years of age.
