Mail Services Supervisor 1 (40 Hour)

The Role
The campus processes over 200 packages daily in addition to bulk, first‑class and other mail, and sorts incoming mail for resident students in 10 residence halls. The incumbent will handle the financial portion of the mailing process, oversee and schedule student workers in two mail‑room locations, and provide support to the campus community. The position ensures continuity of mail‑room operations, appropriate customer service, and meeting the needs of the campus community.
Examplesof Duties
- Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff;
- Provides staff training and assistance;
- Conducts performance evaluations;
- Determines priorities and plans mail‑service unit work;
- Establishes and maintains mail‑service unit procedures;
- Develops or makes recommendations on the development of policies and standards;
- Acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures;
- Prepares reports and correspondence;
- Reviews equipment and may advise for purchasing;
- Maintains meters, vehicles and scales and accessory mailing equipment;
- Investigates complaints;
- Participates in mail service operations;
- Prepares purchase order requests;
- Assists in resolutions of agency mailing problems;
- Performs related duties as required.
- Considerable knowledge of U.S. Postal Service regulations, rates, and classes of mail;
- Knowledge of office management procedures;
- Interpersonal skills;

- Recognize equipment problems and prescribe repairs;
- Perform basic arithmetic computations;
- Utilize computer software;
- Operate computerized and mechanical postal processing equipment;
- Mechanical ability;
- Supervisory ability.
Four (4) years of experience in a mail service operation involving the operation and maintenance of mail service equipment.
Minimum Qualifications – Special ExperienceOne (1) year of the General Experience must have been in a lead capacity. For state employees this experience is interpreted at the level of a Lead Mail Handler.
Preferred Qualifications- Familiarity with Pitney Bowes smart locker system;
- Familiarity with Pitney Bowes mail‑room software/Send Suite, etc.;
- Familiarity with Excel / account reconciliation;
- Familiar with the supervision of student workers.
Incumbents may be required to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.
Physical Requirements- Incumbents must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.
- A physical examination may be required.
Incumbents may be required to do some lifting of moderate to heavy weights.
