Project Manager – Heavy Civil (Highway & DOT)
Location:
New Haven County, CT Project Type:
Heavy Highway, Bridge, and DOT Infrastructure Compensation: $150,000 – $225,000 base What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead construction projects from preconstruction planning through project closeout
- Collaborate with owners, engineers, and design professionals during planning and execution
- Develop detailed scopes, schedules, and project budgets
- Select, contract, and oversee subcontractors and vendors
- Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and to contract specifications
- Monitor cost performance, forecasts, and budget adjustments
- Oversee contract negotiations, change orders, and scope revisions
- Ensure jobsite safety compliance and enforcement of all safety standards
- Coordinate field operations with Superintendents and subcontractors
- Manage project risks related to delays, weather, and unforeseen conditions
- Lead resolution of construction, design, and field issues
- Maintain strong working relationships with clients, inspectors, and project stakeholders
- Communicate budget status, progress, and risks clearly to clients and leadership
- Remain available to support jobsite needs, emergencies, and schedule impacts
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Construction Science
- 3–5+ years of Project Management experience in heavy highway, civil, or DOT construction
- 5+ years of overall construction experience
- Strong understanding of DOT contracts, plans, specifications, and regulations
- Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and subcontractor performance
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 certification (required)
- High level of construction drawing and document literacy
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Valid driver’s license
- Ability to travel to jobsites as required
