The Department of Residential Living and Education plays a vital role in the success of the University of Connecticut and its students by providing quality facilities, personnel, services and programs that contribute to the mission of the University. UConn Residential Living and Education enhances students’ personal, interpersonal, and intellectual growth by creating safe and inclusive environments, innovative programs, and fostering meaningful relationships.
Our comprehensive, student-centered residential program houses over 13,000 students across multiple campuses, including Storrs and expanding to our regional campuses at Hartford and Stamford. Approximately 65% of the undergraduate population resides in university-managed housing. We offer students an array of housing facilities and options to enhance their learning experience, including a variety of learning communities and special interest housing.
The Department of Residential Living and Education and The Department of Housing Administration and Finance work together as Campus Housing. Residential Living and Education works cooperatively with Facilities Operations, Dean of Students Office, Cultural Centers, Community Standards, University Planning, Design and Construction and many other campus partners and departments.
Summary of the Assistant Program Manager of Student Staff and Leadership Engagement Position
Services and programs coordinated by the Assistant Program Manager of Student Staff and Leadership Engagement promote student employment (does not include Resident Assistant Program) and leadership opportunities for our residential students. The Assistant Program Manager serves as the advisor on record for two large leadership programs, the Residence Hall Association (RHA) and the National Residence Hall Honorary (NRHH). RHA is the governing body by which each residential area Hall Council.
RHA with Hall Councils serves as a programming board and provides leadership opportunities and personal growth in various areas. NRHH focuses on community service and recognition programs. These programs are critical to promote the quality of life and personal development for our residential students living in a variety of communities.
The successful candidate is expected to balance job demands with the need to collaborate with university colleagues to enhance the department and student development. The Assistant Program Manager will execute their assigned functional responsibilities using a curricular approach by creating learning outcomes, outcome-based strategies and assessments.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Provide the design, implementation and coordination of the recruitment, selection, training and development of over 200 student office and game room staff for the Storrs and Regional Campuses.
- Works directly and collaboratively with department professional staff to ensure the coordination and delivery of a comprehensive, efficient and effective student employee program.
- Develop scalable student leadership and employment programs to support anticipated growth in residential communities at regional campuses.
- Collaborate with Campus Housing staff to ensure a cohesive, comprehensive, and effective student employment program across all locations.
- Ensures all university and departmental requirements are met for annual and periodic training (Public Safety, Sexual Misconduct reporting, FERPA, etc.) for student personnel.
- Serve as the authoritative resource to students and staff, and others on matters relating to areas of oversight policies, procedures and activities related to Residential Living and Education.
- Assess operational and organizational needs of the student employment and development program and coordinate program services in accordance with departmental goals and objectives. Ensure compliance with departmental and University policies and procedures.
- Monitors the student worker appraisal process and performance documentation processes.
- Facilitates departmental recognition for student worker staff through ongoing appreciation efforts.
- Establish and maintain standard operating procedures and training manuals for student employment positions.
- Serves as the primary advisor for the Residence Hall Association executive board and the National Residence Hall Honorary executive board. The advisor meets regularly with the executive boards to provide support, guidance and resources. The advisor is expected to attend the annual national and regional conferences with the student organizations.
