Solterra Academy is an Approved Private Special Education Program located in New Britain, CT providing comprehensive special education services to students ages 5 to 22 who require intensive intervention due to severe emotional, behavioral, cognitive, developmental, and/or learning challenges. We are looking for passionate individuals to fill our open Classroom Support positions. SUMMARY
Classroom support staff assist the teacher and other support staff in implementing academic, vocational, and behavioral programming in the classroom and the surrounding school environment. They provide support for activities and transitions under the supervision of the teacher and administration and implement behavioral interventions as needed. They record data on student performance as directed. Classroom support staff assist in the creation of a safe and structured environment for all students through the effective implementation of TCI and PBIS practices.
Classroom support staff may rotate among various classrooms as needed.
* Provides active supervision and assists students within the classroom and throughout the school environment.
* Assist students with academic tasks.
* Implement Behavior Intervention Plans with assigned students.
* Provide feedback to students in a therapeutic manner
* Collect data on student behaviors
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
High School Diploma or equivalent required
Bachelor's Degree Preferred
Previous experience working with children with severe behaviors a plus
LICENSE AND/OR CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED
CPR certification required within 90 days of hire (training provided by Solterra Academy).
Certification in Therapeutic Crisis Intervention required with the first training course provided after hire date (training provided by Solterra Academy).
