Faribault Public Schools is seeking a qualified and compassionate Early Childhood Screener to conduct comprehensive developmental screenings for children ages 3 through kindergarten entry. The Early Childhood Screening (ECS) program is a vital opportunity to connect with families, assess a child's development, and provide guidance and referrals when concerns are identified. This role supports our district's commitment to early identification, intervention, and family engagement, helping ensure that every child enters school ready to learn.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct health and developmental screenings in accordance with Minnesota Statute 121A.17, Subd. 6 and district protocols.
- Screen areas including:
- Vision and hearing
- Height and weight measurements
- Immunization and health record review
- Gross and fine motor skills
- Cognitive development, language, and communication
- Social-emotional development through parent report
- Health care coverage and potential learning risk factors
- Facilitate parent summary meetings to discuss screening results and recommendations.
- Refer families to early childhood special education, health providers, or other community resources as needed.
- Maintain accurate, confidential records and enter screening data into district or state-mandated systems.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including school nurses, early childhood educators, and special education staff.
- Assist with scheduling and conducting outreach to families about ECS requirements and opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with state guidelines and reporting requirements for ECS.
Per Minnesota Statutes 121A.17, Subd. 6, screening must be conducted by an individual who is licensed as or has training comparable to:
Special Education Teacher, School Psychologist, Kindergarten Teacher, Pre-Kindergarten Teacher, School Nurse and/or Public Health Nurse.
Other Requirements include- Demonstrated experience or coursework in early childhood development.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with both children and adults.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Comfortable working with families from diverse cultural, linguistic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Proficiency in using data systems and basic technology tools.
- Experience conducting early childhood screenings in a school or community setting.
- Bilingual or multilingual skills in Spanish or Somali.
- Familiarity with early childhood resources in Rice County and surrounding areas.
