position serves as the lead worker in a classroom of Early Start children
by planning, implementing, and supervising all classroom activities. This
position works with typically developing children and children with
disabilities.
Because this position is one part of a large system of
services provided to children and families,this position also serves as a
social service referral person and shares responsibility for parent
involvement in the program. The position of Teacher works intandem with
the rest of the parts of the system as an integrated team to support the
goalsof the program. The position may be reassigned to various
classrooms/centers asdeemed necessary for program operations.
What You'll Do- Coordinate and implement educational curriculum by developing classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practices and early learning standards.
- Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through modeling and coaching.
- Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive and emotional growth.
- Maintain frequent communications with parents through informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences.
- Ensure all center policies and state regulations are met.
- Ensure a healthy classroom environment – including maintaining appropriate hygiene and cleanliness standards and safety and security of children.
- Supervise teacher assistants and classroom volunteers to ensure they are following planned activities, hygiene and safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records, forms and files.
- Maintain personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
Current minimum qualification is one of the following:
- An associate, baccalaureate or advanced degree in Early Childhood Education;
- An associate degree in a field related to Early Childhood Education and coursework
* equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with at least 1080clock hours of experience in an early childhood setting teaching infant toddler and preschool-age children; - A baccalaureate or advanced degree in any field and coursework
* equivalent to a major relating to Early Childhood Education with at least 500 clock hours of experience in an early childhood setting teaching preschool-age children; or - A baccalaureate degree in any field and has been admitted into the Teach For America program, passed a rigorous early childhood content exam, such as the PraxisII, participated in a Teach For America summer training institute that includes teaching preschool children, and is receiving ongoing professional development and support from Teach For America’s professional staff.
- Coursework equivalent to a major related to Early Childhood Education includes but is not limited to the following:
- Teaching Credentials: licensure or certification by the state for Pre-Kteachers recognized by the local school district or state education agency as qualifying teachers to teach pre-school children in that school district or state if the individual has at least 500 clock hours of experience inan early childhood setting teaching pre-school aged children.
