JobPurpose
The Director of Finance has overall responsibility for the fiscal integrity of the Agency, coordinating governmental grant applications and fiscal compliance. The Director of Finance works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, the Agency’s auditor, and the Agency’s Board of Directors Finance Committee.
Duties and Responsibilities- Implement and uphold agency fiscal policies and procedures.
- Supervise Agency Accounting and Finance staff and performance.
- Effectively communicate and present critical financial information to the Board Treasurer, the Finance Committee, and the Board of Directors; consistently ensuring that senior leadership is abreast of the Agency’s financial status.
- Strategically review potential funding to be added or lost in coordination with C‑Suite.
- Develop, in coordination with C‑Suite and the Agency’s Finance Committee, the Agency’s annual budget, including reporting of the various grant budgets to the Agency’s governmental funders.
- Coordinate state and federal grant applications, compliance, and reporting with regard to their fiscal aspects.
- Oversee the annual audit process coordinated by the Accounting Manager and Agency auditor in preparing the annual Agency audit, including state and single audit, Form 990, and CHFA annual audit for Arch Street Housing.
- Oversee a fiscal report prepared by the Accounting Manager for the Annual Board Meeting based on the previous year’s audit report.
- Review accounting software data entry monthly, or as needed, to ensure proper classifications and allocations of income and expenditures to accounts, programs, and grants.
- Review monthly, or as needed, the income and expenditures by program as it relates to the Agency budget, as well as the funders’ budgets.
- Oversee cash flow needs as reviewed by the Accounting Manager.
- Review invoices to funders and others to ensure accuracy.
- Oversee the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts at least quarterly, as prepared by the Accounting Manager and Bookkeeper.
- At the fiscal year‑end, review all accounts for accruals, including receivables, payables, payroll, vacation, and other accruals.
- Education and experience:
Master’s degree in accounting (MBA, MPA) or a related field and a minimum of five (5) years’ experience in non‑profit accounting OR Bachelor’s degree in accounting and seven (7) years’ concurrent experience in non‑profit accounting. - Understanding of and experience working in a non‑profit environment required.
- Experience with creating and managing a budget of at least $4M required.
- Basic understanding of funding sources (local, state, and federal).
- Computer proficiency and technical skills required, including but not limited to:
Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and Excel. Experience with Sage Intacct is a plus.
