Purpose of Job Class (Nature of Work)

Accountable for performing investigations related to criminal and civil matters across a variety of jurisdictional areas.

Examples of Duties
  • Investigate criminal and civil matters within agency or designated area.
  • Secure the incident scene and analyze evidence.
  • Interview victims, witnesses, and suspects.
  • Develop leads to aid crime resolution.
  • Prepare reports.
  • Apply for and serve arrest and search warrants.
  • Serve subpoenas.
  • Arrest, book, and present arrestees in court.
  • Complete bail bond forms.
  • Conduct accident reconstructions, threat assessment, intelligence and background investigations.
  • Assist in training department personnel.
  • Serve as fiduciary of the property room.
  • Package, log, and send evidence to forensic or toxicology laboratories.
  • Review judicial forms for accuracy and deliver to court.
  • Record, organize, store, and safeguard evidence for court proceedings.
  • Impound motor vehicles.
  • Provide court testimony if required.
  • Perform Police Officer duties or related duties as required.
