Job Description Essential Job functions- Responsible for scheduling hospital, ambulatory, and in office surgeries.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, insurance companies, and surgical facilities.
- Coordinate surgery dates, times, and necessary resources with facilities and providers.
- Communicate with patients regarding surgical details, preparation instructions, and timelines.
- Verbalizes procedure for collection of pre-admission testing data. Coordinates required testing prior to admission and ensures all information and consents are on site for patient’s admission/procedure.
- Schedules and enters diagnostic tests and procedures into orders management system, following all appropriate workflows.
- Ensure all required documentation, preoperative testing, and clearances are completed and submitted.
- Communicates problems to Nurse/Physician Assistant/Physician/Clinical Manager.
- Employs appropriate and timely use of tasking.
- Accurately completes any/all necessary forms for the patient
- Performs various clerical duties including faxing, photocopying, scanning, filing and mailing’s
- Establishes and maintains a positive working relationship with physicians and staff
- Obtain and verify insurance authorizations and referrals prior to surgery.
- Demonstrates understanding of submission of necessary documents for hospital and our patient procedures.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of booking and scheduling inpatient, outpatient and special procedures.
- Demonstrates a working knowledge of insurance and pre-certification requirements.
- Demonstrates working knowledge for rescheduling and canceling procedures.
- Demonstrates customer service skills when communicating with peers/other departments.
- Verbalizes customer services skills to alleviate patient anxiety.
- Demonstrates good judgment in scheduling procedure to increase physician productivity.
- Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedures
- Logs surgical procedures as needed.
- Arranges for specialty equipment/ services as needed.
- Interacts with outside vendors / contracted services as needed.
- Other job duties as required.
- High School/GED required. Vocational / Technical School / Diploma Program preferred.
- Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant program, preferred
- Heart Saver certification within 90 days of hire required.
- 0-1 years experience. 2-4 years experience preferred.
Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. - Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Ability to perform diverse work assignments with time limitations with a high degree of accuracy.
- Ability to use problem solving, critical thinking and priority setting skills.
