Staff Attorney

Afscme/Council 4 is the largest labor organization in Connecticut that represents approximately 30,000 state and municipal workers.

This is a full-time position for a Staff Attorney Representative, located in New Britain, CT. The Staff Attorney will be responsible for providing legal advice and representation to clients, including public employee unions and their members. Daily responsibilities include conducting legal research, drafting legal documents, handling labor and employment law matters, negotiating contracts, presenting grievances, and preparing for and representing members in arbitrations, administrative hearings, and court proceedings.

CHRO defense and knowledge of workers’ compensation preferred.

• Knowledge of Law with a specialization or practical experience in Labor and Employment Law with 5 years experience
• Ability to provide sound Legal Advice and counsel to clients
• Strong Research skills to analyze legal issues and prepare cases
• Proficiency in Negotiation, particularly in labor-management agreements and dispute resolution
• Effective courtroom advocacy and excellent oral and written communication skills
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school and admission to the bar in Connecticut
• Experience in union-side labor law or a related practice is strongly preferred
• Ability to manage multiple cases and work efficiently under deadlines
