Responsibilities
  • The CRNA implements accurate, safe, patient-centric anesthetic care.
  • Understands physiologic implications and anesthetic considerations of surgical procedures; constantly monitors vital signs, capnography, and pulse oximetry during anesthesia according to ASA guidelines.
  • The CRNA ensures appropriate documentation within the accordance of hospital and regulatory requirements and protects information of all forms from unauthorized access, modification, destruction, or disclosure.
  • The CRNA demonstrates a high standard of moral and ethical behavior, professionalism, compassion, and commitment to patient care.
  • The CRNA engages in projects that maintain and advance professional competency.

Provides exceptional patient care in collaboration with anesthesiologists, surgeons and other physicians to deliver anesthesia for medical and surgical procedures. Cultivates a patient-centric environment addressing the whole individual including physical, psychosocial, spiritual and functional needs of the patient, family, and significant others. Serves as the focal professional for the continuity of care within scope of practice standards and specialty-specific standards to address and resolve problems that may arise.

A call CRNA is part of a core team providing timely anesthetic and emergency care in a 24/7 model. This full-time position is distinguished from non-call CRNAs with a regular patterned schedule. A call CRNA role entails a flexible, non-patterned schedule with in-house call responsibilities including off-shifts, weekends, and holidays, and is eligible for the call compensation program. Schedule requirements include availability to work off-shifts, weekends, and holidays as part of the restricted in-house call rotation;

willingness to respond to emergency calls and provide anesthesia services within the hospital setting. Notice of transition or resignation from the call team is 90 days.

Qualifications

Education

Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist;
Completion of Certified Nurse Anesthetist Training Program;
Graduate of a Nurse Anesthesia Educational Program accredited by the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists;
Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Programs. Current State of Connecticut Nursing License, Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in Connecticut.

Experience

Prefer clinical working experience as a CRNA within the given specialty/service line, but none required. APRNs, PAs, CRNAs and CNMs are required to be appointed to the Affiliated Medical Staff of a YNHHS Hospital and credentialed through the Medical Staff process. Evidence of current competence to practice as {an APRN, PA, CRNA, CNM} via appropriate reference letters from physicians and other practitioners must be obtainable during the Medical Staff appointment process to be eligible.

Licensure

AANA Certification, State of CT RN and APRN License, ACLS/DEA Registration and State of CT Controlled Substance Registration.

Special Skills

CRNAs must have sharp concentration and focus, the ability to stay calm under stress, clear and effective communication with surgeons, the surgical support team, patients, and families. Anesthetic patient management must be immediate and responsive; flexibility and adaptability are required.

Physical Demands

CRNAs must have the cognitive, perceptual, and motor abilities to perform required tasks; capable of observing, communicating, and moving as needed, including standing for long periods and handling equipment. Ability to lift 25 pounds and move between anesthesia locations; tolerance of physically taxing workloads and ability to function under stress and in changing environments.
