Overview
Registered Nurse (RN) – ICU Float position at Yale New Haven Health located in New Britain, CT.

Responsibilities- Work under the supervision of the Nurse Manager/Clinical Coordinator.
- Assess, plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise individual patient care on a nursing unit/department according to unit policies and procedures.
- Supervise non‑RN personnel on the assigned unit.
- When assuming charge role, delegate and supervise unit activities.
- Work on other nursing units as needed based on staff and patient distribution.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to maintain high level of service.
- Continuously assess patients’ physical and psychosocial condition throughout the continuum of care.
- Develop, communicate, and document individualized plans of care to achieve desired outcomes, involving patients, families, and the healthcare team.
- Implement and coordinate plans of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
- Evaluate effectiveness of plans, patient response, and readiness for discharge, revising as needed and making referrals when indicated.
- Plan and provide education based on patient and family learning needs and readiness.
- Document educational outcomes and provide opportunities for education.
- Serve as a preceptor to new staff.
- Serve as charge nurse when required.
- Meet performance expectations for customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and staff and self‑development as outlined in performance reviews.
- Ensure smooth operation of department/unit by performing duties as assigned or directed.
- Demonstrate competency in caring for neuro patients, including neuro assessment and airway management.
- Demonstrate skill and understanding in caring for trachea ted patients and aiding physicians during special neuro procedures.
- Participate in the 'Tia' teaching program.
- Perform pharyngeal, endotracheal, and tracheostomy suctioning according to established policy and procedure.
- Use equipment and care patients with a halo brace, and manage patients on ventilators.
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN preferred).
- Proficient in computer software, including electronic patient record systems.
- Ability to search the internet for literature related to patient care.
- Minimum 1 year of NNICU RN experience required.
- Valid state of Connecticut Registered Nurse license.
- BLS required.
