Job SummaryPublic Safety Officers serve as front line guardians to the Hartford Health Care community by providing customer service and ensuring our environments are safe, secure and well prepared for all patients, visitors, colleagues, clinicians, physicians and the first responder community. They are equipped to prevent hazardous situations, respond to and manage hazardous and emergency situations, and provide support and resources when situations are successfully managed.
Responsibilities- Provides professional, customer service focused assistance to the HHC community including patients, visitors, families, colleagues, clinicians, physicians, and the first responder community.
- Patrols and rounds the facility to identify concerning activity, safety concerns or other problems. May be assigned to fixed areas to check credentials, provide information or directions. When assigned to mobile patrols, operates vehicles in a safe manner complying with all traffic and safety rules.
- Provides a timely response, uses problem solving to take appropriate action to manage and investigate security incidents and hazards.
- Maintains current knowledge of instructions, policies and procedures and performs work in accordance with these guidelines.
- Shares information with other Public Safety Officers, maintains accurate activity logs and completes reports and documentation.
- Partners with law enforcement and other first responders when circumstances warrant.
- Informs supervisor or other leadership of unusual situations and requests additional assistance as needed.
- Completes other duties as assigned.
- One (1) year of relevant experience (public safety, corrections, EMS, military) required.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Valid CT Guard Card required.
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English required.
- Two (2) years of relevant experience preferred.
- Basic First Aid and CPR preferred.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) preferred.
- Management of Aggressive Behaviors (MOAB) preferred.
- Multilingual preferred.
- Ability to exercise discretion and use good judgment to perform duties promptly and consistently with little direction based on the current circumstances.
- Focused on providing an exceptional experience to our patients, customers, staff, organizations, and internal and external partners.
- Ability to analyze and solve a variety of difficult situations, problem events, emergencies.
- Attention to detail and ability to handle tasks independently.
- Basic to intermediate computer and technology skills, electronic tools and resources.

Full‑time (40 hours)
Shift Details: 10:45 pm – 7:15 am every other weekend and holiday
