Responsibilities
  • The scheduler is the dispatch backup for the operational supervisor in the central dispatch department. All decisions regarding movement of trucks and scheduling rest on their authority to make well‑planned decisions and accommodate customer needs.
  • SCHEDULING:
    Monitor orders, tracking and scheduling throughout the day; make adjustments to maintain service while best utilizing drivers and equipment. Monitor work for the following day and week. Ensure the scheduling graph reflects correct truck availability and delivery times. When the schedule is booked, direct dispatch to the first available time for additional orders.
  • SICK OR LATE DRIVERS:
    Email the Customer Service/Dispatch Manager when a driver is late or out sick and record in the Driver Late‑Out Log and Track-It.
  • TRACKING:
    Track order progress across dispatch regions and direct truck movement between dispatchers to maintain service.
  • PLANT CLOSINGS:
    Confer with the Customer Service/Dispatch Manager and direct dispatchers when to close plants due to lack of work, maintenance, or seasonal closings; reschedule orders to other locations as needed. Coordinate truck relocations during temporary breakdowns. Communicate any special mixes or considerations that could affect next‑day concrete production.
  • TRUCK BREAKDOWNS:
    Notify Dispatcher and shop with all details; involve Truck Foreman on site if safety requires; inform Customer Service/Dispatch Manager and Division Manager as needed.
  • ACCIDENT/INCIDENT:
    Notify Dispatcher, assist with emergency services if needed, dispatch available personnel, and inform relevant managers and Safety.
  • CUSTOMER COMMUNICATION:
    Contact customers for questions, delays, or interruptions; initiate calls to key customers or jobs that could affect the schedule; make approximately five customer calls per week and log results.
  • SAFETY & PLANT MEETINGS:
    Schedule all plant and driver safety meetings in coordination with the Customer Service/Dispatch Manager.
  • DISPATCHING:
    When the Dispatcher is absent, dispatch the day’s work.
  • DAILY KEY ORDER MANAGEMENT:
    Coordinate with the Dispatcher at the start of the day to alert Batchmen, Truck Foremen, and Drivers of any “Key Orders” flagged by Quality Control.
  • CSR/ORDER TAKING:
    Customer Service Representatives take orders promptly, record accurate delivery and product information, promote value‑added products, confirm orders back to customers, negotiate delivery times, and foster lasting customer relationships.
  • TEAMWORK & COMMUNICATION:
    Work with dispatch, other departments, and teammates to ensure smooth operations and service delivery.
Qualifications
  • Minimum high school education; business, logistical, or communicational training; building industry background desirable.
  • Ability to multi‑task with excellent organizational and planning skills.
  • Good computer skills with knowledge of current operating systems and office suites.
  • Ability to analyze problems quickly and make sound decisions.
  • Reliable attendance and work record.
  • Good phone and communication skills; thorough and detail oriented.
  • Willingness to work longer hours; ability to handle pressure and stress while staying composed.
  • Teamwork orientation and ability to work and communicate well with dispatch and other departments.
